Blood Donation Requirements
To ensure the safety of blood donation for both blood donors, and recipients, all volunteer blood donors must be evaluated to determine their eligibility to give blood.
To Give Blood You Must:
Provide a photo ID.
Be in general good health.
You must weigh at least 110 lbs.
Drink plenty of water and eat a high protein snack at least 45 minutes prior to your donation.
You must be at least 16 years old with a parental/guardian consent form or 17 and older without consent. Some schools may require a signed Solvita parental consent form for all students.
Tattoos and piercings are acceptable if they are applied at a tattoo studio licensed in 39 states (including Ohio and Indiana) and they are healed. There is a three-month deferral rate if the tattoo was applied by an unlicensed tattoo studio.
Piercings are acceptable if they are performed with a sterile, single-use needle, and they are healed. If the piercing was not performed with a sterile, single-use needle, the deferment is three months from the date of procedure.
You are eligible to donate blood again after 56 days or 8 weeks.
